The identities have been released of the four people arrested on Monday morning in connection with a reported baby formula theft following a chase that began in Collier County and ended in Broward County.
According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office's report, Ja'mari Bell, 18, Tamiya Love, 17, Karenna Mesidor, 17, and Raniyah Brunson, 16, all from Miami-Dade County, were all arrested after the chase ended on Alligator Alley in Broward County.
The report states that deputies went to the area of Pine Ridge Road and Airport-Pulling Road after they received a report that suspects in a black Tesla were accused of stealing baby food from Publix.
The sheriff's office said the suspects were accused of stealing from Naples Town Centre off US-41 and Berkshire Commons off Radio Road. Video and photos reportedly showed all four who were accused of hiding the formula with large bags and leaving without paying. According to deputies, the total theft amount was $2,721.49.
Deputies said they found the Tesla which matched the description of the vehicle in the Target parking lot before it reportedly took off towards I-75.
During the chase on I-75, the vehicle reportedly reached up to 140 mph and averaged 130 mph, according to the report. Additionally, the driver was accused of driving on the medians, weaving in and out of traffic and going through an area of road work.
Eventually, the Tesla started to slow down, but it did not stop, as deputies said it may have possibly been running out of battery. At the 44.5-mile marker on I-75 southbound, it slowed to a stop and all four suspects were then arrested, according to the report.
Bell was reportedly the driver and he is facing charges of fleeing/eluding, coordinated theft over $3K and driving while license is suspended, revoked, or canceled. Love, Mesidor and Brunson are each facing a charge of coordinated theft over $3K.
Gulf Coast News has requested the mugshots for the three teenagers arrested in connection with the incident.
