The Hendry County School Board voted unanimously to purchase signage that will enhance the visibility and clarity of the camera-enforced school speed zones.
According to the school board, residents voiced concerns and feedback about ongoing confusion regarding the school zone speed limits, enforcement times, and zone boundaries. This prompted the school board to move forward with the plan to purchase more detailed signage.
The school board said the new signage will include flashing speed limit signs that will activate during camera enforcement periods, as well as roadway markings that will clearly mark the beginning and end of each school speed zone.
The installation of traffic control devices is usually the responsibility of local municipalities and county governments, but the school board said it chose to be proactive by utilizing funds generated by the school zone speed camera program to purchase the signage.
The project is expected to be completed before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
