COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—WINK News has obtained an incident report detailing an accidental shooting involving three teenagers at a home on Henderson Drive in Collier County.
The incident report says when sheriff's deputies arrived at the home, the three teens were outside and two were bleeding. A mother who was inside the home when the shooting happened said one boy had a bullet graze his hand while another boy was shot in the arm.
A concerned relative of one of the boys who was shot called 911. In the call, the relative can be heard saying the teens were hesitant to contact authorities.
"He literally just called me like 10 seconds ago, and he doesn't wanna call 911. I can hear everybody in the background freaking out," said the caller. "He said it was an accident."
The sheriff's report says a K9 found two guns, one by a shed and the other on the ground by a house. The report says the boys did not initially tell the deputy on scene where the gun was located, with one of the boys later saying he did not want to snitch.
The report says the 16-year-old who lives in the home on Henderson Drive was playing video games when his two friends came over. He heard a gunshot and turned around to see his two friends bleeding.
The report says the 16 year old said one of the boys told the other "he didn't want anything to do with this" then handed the gun to a boy referred to as JB. The report says one of the boys then grabbed another gun in the bedroom, took it outside by the shed, and while placing it down accidentally discharged the firearm.
Neighbors said when they saw the police cars in the area, they didn't know what was going on.
"I had no idea it was an accidental shooting. I had no idea. I didn't hear any guns go off," neighbor Tyler Brinkley said. "That could be a very frightening case to deal with."
The mother of the 16-year-old in the house said she did not know a gun was in her home and was scared because an 8-month-old baby lives in the home. Neighbors said they were surprised the shooting happened, describing the area as usually quiet with friendly residents.
A local teen said she first learned about the accidental shooting on social media and immediately called her friend who lives down the street.
Neighbors down the street said guns have become too normalized in society.
"I think it's kinda crazy, but, like, I know it's so normal now. Like, it's obviously normalized. Like, I see people posting with guns," said Jaydah Zertopoulis. "It's not good."
Zertopoulis's best friend Anna Williams lives down the street from where the accidental shooting happened.
"I started spamming her and I was like, 'Oh my God,' like, 'Anna...' 'Cause I saw it was two teenagers, so I was, like, just gonna make sure," said Zertopoulis.
Williams said she didn't hear gun shots.
"I can't believe it was right there. I didn't even realize that was right here," Williams said.
The two individuals were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Collier County Sheriff's Office has not said whether anyone will be charged and is still investigating.
