In the Florida Everglades, strangers trade comfort for curiosity.
"Everyone thought it was the craziest thing they'd ever seen," said the film's director, Xander Robbin. "Sort of exotic and insane, and I'm like, wait a minute, this is normal for me," said Robbin.
For Robbin, making a film about an experience that may be ordinary to him became a story worth seeing through fresh eyes.
"Once I understood that their contest was 95% amateurs, it became more exciting to me, because it wasn't a story I was seeing anywhere else," said Robbin.
The film isn't really about pythons; it's about people willing to venture into the unknown.
"We're honoring the subjects of the film who spent a lot of time with us to make a film that I think they would be excited to watch," said Robbin.
Because beneath the mystery and myths, the Everglades is still the main character, and Robbin hopes the film gives the audience a sense of stepping inside that world.
