Naples police said Tabatha Towns is accused of starting a road rage altercation Wednesday morning after claiming another driver nearly crashed into her.
Two victims told officers that Towns reportedly slammed on her brakes twice while following them on Goodlette-Frank Road, eventually leading them into a medical center parking lot off 7th Avenue North.
Jake Novotany, a frequent visitor from Nashville, Tennessee, said, "I've had people brake check me, ride my bumper. It's definitely concerning."
Investigators said Towns is accused of reaching through the open driver’s window and punching one of the women in the face.
The victims, who spoke anonymously for safety reasons, described the incident over the phone.
"I got out of my car. I tried. I definitely defended myself. And then my sister tried to de-escalate the situation. Then she attacked me and my sister. And then we had to defend ourselves against her," one victim said.
The police report stated that all three women reportedly ended up wrestling in a grassy area, where officers later found braided hair, eyeglasses and makeup items left behind during the struggle.
One of the victims told police that Towns reportedly bit her finger during the altercation.
Officers said Towns drove away to another medical office nearby, where they found her wearing scrubs covered in grass and admitting she had been involved in a fight.
Novotany shared his concerns about road rage incidents, saying, "People get out of their car. They have weapons over something minuscule, like brake checking or riding people's bumper. So definitely advise people to be careful and definitely tell friends and family, do not get out of the car for anybody."
He also offered advice to drivers, saying, "Get a dashcam. It's the best way to prevent these kind of things. Once people know they're on camera, or even whip your phone out if you have to, if someone's really acting crazy. But I think it's the best deterrent."
