The Fort Myers City Council approved a pilot program on Wednesday, which includes an increase of free parking from one hour to two hours in the city's three downtown parking garages.
The garages are City of Palms Garage, Main Street Garage, and the Luminary Hotel Garage. There are 1,285 parking spaces across the three garages.
According to the city, the temporary rate structure includes the following:
The city said the temporary rates are meant to encourage residents and visitors to dine, shop and enjoy downtown businesses and attractions without the added expense of parking for shorter visits.
The rates will be in effect from June 25, 2026, through Oct. 31, 2026.
The city said it will evaluate the program's effectiveness during this period and consider future strategies based on utilization and feedback.
