SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Another round of dangerous heat is expected across Southwest Florida this weekend, with feels-like temperatures between 103° and 110° Saturday and Sunday afternoon. While scattered afternoon storms will bring some cooling, the combination of heat and humidity can create dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
WINK News Weather Authority Meteorologists are monitoring the potential for Heat Advisories this weekend as heat index values climb above 108 degrees across much of the area. Heat Advisories are issued when prolonged heat and humidity increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. Even healthy adults can experience heat exhaustion or heat stroke if they're outside too long without proper hydration or breaks.
While June is notorious for reintroducing Southwest Florida to the summer heat, this June is hotter than most. So far, 20 days this month have featured high temperatures above the normal afternoon high of 91°putting 2026 on pace to become the 4th warmest June on record. Only 1981, 1998, and 2010 had hotter Junes than what we are currently facing.
Stay safe in the heat
If you're spending time outdoors this weekend:
Know the warning signs of heat illness. Heat exhaustion can cause heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and muscle cramps. If symptoms worsen or someone becomes confused, stops sweating, or loses consciousness, call 911 immediately, as these are signs of heat stroke.
WINK News Weather Authority Meteorologists will continue tracking the weekend heat, any Heat Advisories that may be issued, and the daily storm chances that will provide some afternoon relief.
