CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — A crash on northbound Interstate 75 at Mile Marker 161 left one person dead Saturday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at 3:02 p.m. Saturday in Charlotte County.
A 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading north on I-75 when it entered the painted gore area near the Exit 161 ramp to Jones Loop Road and struck the rear of a stopped semi-truck trailer.
The semi-truck was disabled in the gore area at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Tahoe was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say positive identification is still pending.
The semi-truck driver, a 45-year-old man from Saint Cloud, Florida, suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
