As of the 8 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area just off the northeast Florida coast for potential tropical development. This area of disturbed weather is expected to form behind a cold front as it moves off the East Coast and into the Atlantic.
Development chances remain low, at just 20% over the next seven days. Forecast models generally agree that if a system does develop, it would likely remain weak and primarily bring increased rainfall to parts of Georgia, the Carolinas, and northeastern Florida.
At this time, this poses no threat to Southwest Florida. Stay with the WINK Weather Authority for the latest updates as we continue to monitor the tropics.
