LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)—A crash involving a pickup truck towing a boat caused extensive lane closures on southbound Interstate 75 north of Luckett Road on June 28, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says the crash happened around 7:18 a.m. at mile marker 140. A 29-year-old man from Bonita Springs was driving a 2014 Hyundai sedan southbound on I-75 when he failed to maintain a single lane and collided with a trailer being towed by a 2017 Ford F-150.
The pickup truck was driven by a 56-year-old man from Piqua, Ohio, and carried a 63-year-old female passenger, also from Piqua. The truck was towing a 22-foot boat at the time of the crash.
After the initial collision, FHP says the pickup truck and trailer jackknifed, causing the sedan to collide a second time with the driver's side of the truck.
The sedan became disabled in the inside lane facing south. The pickup truck came to rest on the paved shoulder facing north. The trailer overturned, FHP says and the boat it was carrying partially separated and damaged the guardrail.
No injuries were reported. The southbound inside lane remained closed for an extended period while emergency crews worked to remove the boat from the roadway.
