SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — WINK News Weather Authority meteorologists are tracking a hotter day with less rain as you get your short work week started.
Heat index values will make a run at 105 to 110 degrees on Tuesday as the heat persists and humidity continues to build across Southwest Florida.
Tuesday morning will feature a mostly clear sky, with lows in the mid to upper 70s. Expect a mix of sun and clouds through the midday hours as afternoon temperatures climb into the mid-90s. Scattered storms are expected during the afternoon and evening, with 40% rain coverage.
Rain coverage increases to 60% from Wednesday through the upcoming holiday weekend. Afternoon temperatures will remain in the lower to mid-90s, although scattered storms may provide brief heat relief for some communities.
The Weather Authority is monitoring increasing rain chances heading into the holiday weekend. You can find the latest updates on TV on WINK News.
Low Chance of Tropical Development off the Southeast Coast
The WINK News Weather Authority is monitoring a weak area of disturbed weather just offshore of the Southeast U.S. coast. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms near the coast of North Carolina are interacting with an upper-level disturbance and an approaching cold front. Over the next day or two, a broad area of low pressure could form along the front offshore before slowly drifting south and west.
While some gradual development is possible, environmental conditions are expected to become less favorable later this week, limiting the system's chances of organizing. At this time, the chance of tropical development remains low:
Next 48 hours: 10%
Next 7 days: 10%
This system poses no threat to Southwest Florida, but the WINK News Weather Authority will continue monitoring activity across the Atlantic Basin throughout hurricane season.
