FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Florida State Attorney Amira Fox announced 2nd-degree murder charges in the homicide case of Julia Curvo, a 28-year-old woman who was found dead near downtown Fort Myers in January.
On Monday, Fox announced the homicide charges against Rolbert Joachin, a man who is also facing first-degree murder indictment charges in the killing of a woman with a mallet in early April.
Fox stated that the Joachin case has been reviewed by a Lee County grand jury, leading to the indictment. In addition, the state’s attorney's office is seeking the death penalty.
Curvo, who was reported missing for about a week, was found dead near downtown Fort Myers in January.
Her body was discovered on Hough Street, just blocks away. According to Fox, Curvo’s cause of death was strangulation.
Investigators then declared the disappearance and death of Curvo a homicide investigation in late February.
Fort Myers Police Chief Jason Fields was in attendance and discussed the investigation and, eventually, the charges filed against Joachin.
