WINK News is making a difference in Southwest Florida one person at a time by "listening" to the community's concerns and working to find solutions.
The station's WINK Listens events visited 15 different locations across the area, meeting residents face-to-face to hear their stories. While some team members mingled with the crowd, others sat down for one-on-one conversations where people could share what was on their minds.
"Thank you for listening to me and giving me the opportunity to speak," said one woman.
Many people expressed frustration about feeling unheard. One person from Matlacha shared her struggle with getting attention for local issues.
"It just seems like nobody will listen," she said.
Another neighbor described feeling overwhelmed by their situation.
"In my prayers every night, I'm just saying prayers hoping somebody will wake up and stop this," she added.
After each conversation, WINK News begins the real work. The team reaches out to the businesses, cities or counties involved, asks the tough questions and works to get answers and results for the community.
Residents appreciated the attention their concerns received.
"Thank you for the attention that you're giving to Matlacha, and we know that it's going to make a difference," one person said.
WINK News continues its commitment to telling the stories that matter most to Southwest Florida residents, because behind every headline is a person, a family or a community that deserves to be heard and WINK Listens.
