Lily Ramirez Guzman made a disturbing discovery on Friday. She found an alligator's head sitting along Alabama Road South and Jayne Court, just off State Road 82 in Lee County.
"Very heartbreaking. I wouldn't want any animal to go through something like that," said Guzman.
"Like it looked really clean-cut, like you could see straight into the gator's head," said Guzman.
She captured the moment on video, showing vultures eating the remains.
"I really did feel bad for the gator," said Guzman.
She believes someone cut off the gator's head and left it on display for people to see.
"I don't believe an animal could have done something so clean like that. You know, we do know animals do get messy," said Guzman.
Wildlife officers with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says it's aware of the situation and investigating what could have happened.
As a reminder, FWC says it's illegal to kill an alligator outside of hunting season or without permits.
As for Guzman, she's sending a message to the Gulf Coast.
"This was their home prior to our home. So, just respect it, respect them."
Anyone with information is asked to call FWC's wildlife alert hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
