COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — WINK Investigates first broke the story last week that a corrections officer assigned to Alligator Alcatraz had been arrested. Now, newly obtained court records reveal the alleged victim was a detainee inside the controversial immigration detention center.
WINK Investigates obtained charging documents showing 24-year-old Stephen Jordan Trejos, a corrections officer assigned to what officials call, Alligator Alcatraz, is charged with misdemeanor battery.
According to court records, prosecutors allege Trejos battered a Hispanic male detainee at the facility on Jan. 25, 2026. The alleged victim is identified in the documents only by a possible name, "Rigoberto Rodriguez Arce."
Trejos was arrested on Wednesday at the detention center and booked into the Naples Jail Center. He later posted a $1,000 bond before being released.
The arrest came one day before state officials announced the closure of Alligator Alcatraz, ending months of controversy surrounding the immigration detention facility.
WINK Investigates requested comments last week from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) about the arrest but have not received a response. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) referred questions to the State of Florida.
Immigration attorney Hector Diaz, who told WINK Investigates he represented about 25 detainees held at Alligator Alcatraz, said he was not surprised to learn of the arrest.
"When you give all the power to a certain group, there's going to be abuses, and it was just a matter of time before this happened," Diaz said. "It was easily preventable by properly training the people that we put in charge to hold these detainees."
WINK Investigates called Trejos seeking his side of the story. He answered the phone but hung up.
WINK Investigates then sent Trejos a text message requesting comment but has not received a response.
Trejos attorney told WINK Investigates he didn't want to comment at this time.
WINK Investigates will continue following the case against Trejos.
