A Candlelight Fleetwood Mac concert at The Naples Players ended in a chaotic arrest Sunday night, with cellphone video capturing officers removing a man from the audience as musicians continued performing.
The video shows Naples police officers approaching a man seated inside the theater before a struggle breaks out. As officers escort him from the auditorium, audience members can be heard cheering and applauding.
According to an arrest report, officers responded to The Naples Players Sugden Community Theater after staff requested assistance removing two patrons who they said refused to leave the performance. Theater staff told police the pair had been loud, belligerent and disruptive during the show.
Police identified the man as Shane Michael Brandt and the woman as Nicole Lieberman.
According to the report, officers ordered Brandt and Lieberman to leave the theater after staff requested they be trespassed. Police say Brandt refused commands to leave, resisted arrest and struggled with officers as they attempted to take him into custody. The report also says Brandt struck an officer in the chest with his left elbow while being escorted from the theater.
The video later shows officers taking Brandt to the ground outside the auditorium as they repeatedly order him to stop moving. At one point, an officer warns a woman standing nearby to step back or risk being arrested as well.
The Naples Players confirmed the incident happened during a third-party rental event hosted by the Candlelight Concert series.
The theater said it is cooperating with the Naples Police Department as the incident is reviewed.
The theater also said the musicians continued performing throughout the incident, and the concert concluded as scheduled.
According to The Naples Players, this is the first time in more than a decade law enforcement has been called to remove a patron during a performance. The theater said it is now evaluating whether additional security measures are needed for future rental events.
Gulf Coast News reached both Brandt and Lieberman for comment.
Brandt ended the phone call when contacted.
Lieberman told Gulf Coast News she and Brandt "didn't do anything wrong" before referring questions to her attorney.
Lieberman's attorney disputed the police account, saying witnesses seated near his client have cellphone videos that he believes contradict the arrest report. He also claimed Lieberman was never asked to leave before officers arrived.
Brandt was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, disorderly conduct, and trespassing. Lieberman was also arrested on a trespassing charge.
