When it comes to living with her rescue dogs, Pam Thomas accepts the chaos that comes with the territory.
"When I got down here, the first thing I did was find an apartment that allowed dogs," said Pam.
When we asked Pam how many more dogs are in her future, she told us, "I've got to figure out what my lifespan is, you know? How many more dogs can I add?"
While belly rubs and ball throws are plentiful in this home, recently, Pam decided to gift her pups something different.
"I saw the ad, and I thought, oh, I have to do this," said Pam.
This summer, Pam received what the Patty Baker Humane Society in Naples is calling an "ugly pet portrait."
"We are the official ugly pet drawers of Naples, and we're kind of proud of it," said CEO Becca Morris. Morris got together with her team and decided to draw "ugly" portraits of pets to raise money for the shelter.
Each portrait is $20. Morris admits she's no artist, but she and her team sure put a lot of love into those drawings.
"We cannot guarantee how it's going to come to you. "It might look like a haunted potato, but that potato is going to help shelter pets, so that's the whole part of this," said Morris. "It's okay for us to have fun and for you to have a little fun too."
Some people, like Pam, believe the portraits are much more beautiful than expected.
"I was in shock, it's very good!" said Pam. "It's on my refrigerator, you know."
For people like Pam, these portraits are silly keepsakes, sure, but they're also reminders of what our pups give us: unfailing love.
"It's truly that unconditional love. You can scold them for something, and five minutes later they're wagging their tail," said Pam.
