An attempted car break-in in Cape Coral on June 23 was interrupted when motion-activated lights reportedly detected two suspects, leading to a 911 call.
"Kids out here pulling on the car doors," a caller reported to emergency dispatch.
Cape Coral police were notified, and officers confirmed that three vehicles were broken into that night on Southeast 19th Street. Authorities said the same suspects caught on security footage were responsible for the incidents, which residents say are happening frequently.
Neighbors in the area report that the two suspects have been targeting vehicles almost every night, with security cameras capturing the break-ins.
"They left a stack of gift cards, and it's a pretty big stack that he keeps in his center console, but they took other things that were of more value," said Sara Trapp, a Cape Coral resident whose car was broken into.
Additional video shared with Gulf Coast News shows the suspects reportedly attempting to break into a pickup truck in southeast Cape Coral.
"Every time they come to my house, I always make sure my car is locked every night," said Maggie Sosa, a resident of 30 years who has never seen such activity on her street before.
The incidents have left younger residents, like Jason Perez, feeling uneasy.
"Last night I saw them walking around, and I knew they had a weapon, so I just walked away," Perez said.
The weapon Perez referred to is a Glock 19 pistol that the suspects reportedly stole from a car over a week ago.
"Always on edge, I hear my dogs barking, and I am hurrying up, looking through the window," Sosa added.
Neighbors believe the suspects are in their late teens or early 20s. As of now, no arrests have been made.
