NORTH NAPLES, Fla. (WINK) — One person is dead, and two others were taken to the hospital after a three-alarm house fire on Hickory Road Saturday morning.
According to North Collier Fire Rescue, Engine 44 was dispatched to the home at 9:45 a.m. for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. When firefighters arrived, they found a column of smoke coming from the home and immediately requested additional resources.
One person was transported to the hospital with burn injuries, while another was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
A North Collier firefighter was also taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. Fire officials said the firefighter's family has been notified and that an update on their condition will be provided when more information is available.
Battalion 45 called for a second alarm at 10:06 a.m., followed by a third alarm at 10:35 a.m. Fire officials said the additional alarms were requested because of the size of the home, which they said is comparable to many commercial buildings, its unique design, and the dangerous heat conditions. Temperatures climbed into the 90s Saturday, with a heat index reaching 108 degrees.
Hickory Road has reopened to traffic. However, North Collier Fire Rescue, the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the State Fire Marshal's Office and crime scene investigators remain on scene as they work to determine what caused the fire. The fire has been deemed not suspicious.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
