Hundreds of people gathered on 5th Avenue South in Naples to celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s 250th birthday with a parade and patriotic festivities.
Evelyn Jegerings, who traveled from Holland to Naples for the event, shared her excitement about the celebration.
"Very excited. It makes me a little bit emotional, emotional as well, because lots of people. Oh, nice dress and fancy dress. Red, white, and blue colors," said Jegerings.
Patrick Brooks, visiting from Boston, emphasized the importance of spending the day with loved ones.
"It's the best. I think it kind of encompasses what the 4th of July is. Just America with all your friends and family. It's awesome," said Brooks.
For Naples resident Joyce Varisco, this year’s celebration held special meaning. She reflected on the country’s bicentennial in the 1970s and expressed her joy in sharing the day with her grandson.
"4th of July is like one of my favorite holidays. It absolutely is. It brings a lot of people together that says we are a country. No matter what your creed. We are a country," said Varisco.
The festivities in Naples will continue with a fireworks display at 9 p.m., launched from a barge offshore near 5th Avenue South. The show will be visible from all local beaches.
