THE WEATHER AUTHORITY (WINK) — After a stormy start to the Fourth of July, weather conditions are expected to improve in time for most evening celebrations across Southwest Florida.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed along the coast this morning before shifting inland through the afternoon, following a typical summer pattern. A few waterspouts were also spotted offshore near Sanibel and Englewood early in the day, creating a picturesque start to America's 250th birthday celebration.

As we head toward sunset, the focus for rain and storms will continue moving inland, allowing many coastal communities to dry out before fireworks begin. While a brief shower can't be ruled out, especially east of I-75, the overall trend is for improving conditions through the evening.

Sunset is at 8:24 PM, setting the stage for fireworks displays shortly afterward.
That's good news for thousands expected to attend celebrations, including Cape Coral's Red, White & Boom and fireworks displays on Fort Myers Beach.
