A woman died in a house fire Saturday morning in Collier County, and investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze on Hickory Road in the Pine Ridge gated community.
North Collier Fire crews returned to the home Monday to take measurements and continue their search for what caused the deadly fire.
Deputies received a call just before 10 a.m. Saturday, after a carbon monoxide alarm went off in the home.
“Our crews were dispatched to a fire alarm or CO2 alarm. Upon arrival, it was a single-engine. Upon arrival, they saw a column of smoke,” said Heather Mazurkiewicz of North Collier Fire.
According to the report, a man who escaped the home told deputies that Pamela Messano, 47, was still inside. Firefighters later found her dead in the house, while the man was treated for his injuries.
Friends and family are remembering Messano as a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who loved to help others.
Jayson Rogers, a member of the Servpro disaster recovery team, visited the home Monday to offer support to the family.
“I brought a little care package that had, like, soaps and towels and things like that. And just to get people started again because have a fire. It's. Most of the things are pretty much gone and destroyed,” Rogers said.
Rogers, who works with families affected by house fires daily, said he understands how overwhelming the aftermath can be.
“It’s a really tragic event, and it’s an awful day. But, you know, just literally on the community, rely on people, rely on the teams that are around you,” he said.
The North Collier Fire District said they are still investigating to determine the cause of the fire and expect to have more information by next week. The fire has been deemed non-suspicious.
