FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Rolbert Joachin, the Haitian man accused of two murders in Fort Myers, will go before a judge on Monday afternoon.
The State Attorney's Office filed second-degree murder charges last week in the death of 28-year-old Julia Curvo. Monday afternoon's hearing is a continuation of last Thursday's pretrial detention hearing.
The Florida Public Defender's Office filed a certification of conflict in the case, saying it cannot ethically represent Joachin. The office asked the court to appoint regional counsel instead.
Regional counsel also cited a conflict of interest. The judge had to call several attorneys before finding someone who could represent Joachin in both of his cases.
Joachin also has a capital case brought by the state for the murder of Nilufa Easmin. Defense attorney Lee Hollander will now represent Joachin in both cases.
The continuation of the hearing begins at 1:30 p.m.
