Rolbert Joachin, accused of killing two women in Fort Myers, is scheduled to appear in court today at 1:30 p.m. for a motions hearing.
The hearing is for the murder case of 28-year-old Julia Curvo.
This will be Joachin's first court appearance with his new attorney, Lee Hollander, who previously represented convicted killer Wade Wilson.
Joachin is charged with first-degree murder in Curvo's death, which occurred in January. Investigators said he suffocated her before leaving her body on Hough Street near downtown Fort Myers.
Joachin is also facing a separate first-degree murder charge and the death penalty in the killing of a Fort Myers mother who was working at a gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in April.
Today's hearing comes after both the public defender's office and the regional counsel informed the court they could not represent Joachin due to conflicts of interest.
During the hearing, the judge may address pretrial motions or other legal issues as the case moves toward trial.
