A man jumped off the Big Carlos Pass Bridge in Lee County on the Fourth of July, shortly after two boats passed through the narrow waterway.
Deputy Chief Christopher Armiger of the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District cautioned against diving from bridges, emphasizing the risks involved.
"The bridges aren't constructed for that. And these waterways are navigable waterways," Armiger said.
"There's no safety in place. So you really can't mitigate the dangers that come with tides, with boats in the water, with the current or anything like that," he added.
According to a viewer, the man was picked up by the boat he had been traveling on. Fort Myers Beach Fire officials reminded the public that diving from bridges is not allowed.
