FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WINK)— Mars Petcare US, Inc. is recalling two lots of a popular dog food product over safety concerns.
The company announced a voluntary recall of PEDIGREE Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2oz for dogs, according to a press release.
The two affected lot codes are 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC.
Mars says the recalled cans may contain pieces of hard and sharp metal and plastic, which could be dangerous for dogs if eaten. Health risks range from choking to cuts or blockages in the digestive tract, the company said.
The products had originally been sent to a third-party vendor for destruction but appear to have been fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States, according to the press release.
Mars said it is working with authorities to figure out how the products ended up on store shelves. The company said it has received no reports of pet illness or injury so far.
If you think you have purchased the recalled product, do not feed it to your dog.
You can contact PEDIGREE Consumer Care at 1-800-525-5273 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central time and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central time, or visit pedigree.com for a replacement.
No other PEDIGREE or Mars Petcare US products are affected by this recall.
