The Cape Coral Rowing Club president has shared new video footage with police, which she believes shows the individuals who reportedly vandalized their facility along Old Burnt Store Road in June.
"Every single time one of my cameras triggers a notification, I have to check it," said Cape Coral Rowing Club President Saundra Weston.
The reported vandalism occurred early in the morning when two individuals arrived on a barge boat. Video footage from last month shows one person blacking out a security camera and breaking into a storage shed. Weston said the duo stole two marine batteries from the club's safety boat.
Last week, Weston discovered a new clue while reviewing footage.
"I did go back through, just looking at times when we didn't have rowers here. And what I found was on the evening of June 1, at about 5:17 in the evening, my cameras picked up video of a boat that looks nearly identical to the one that was involved in the theft," Weston said.
She sent the video to Cape Coral police, highlighting two individuals traveling on a canal in a boat. Weston believes they could be the vandals.
Weston said she no longer keeps new boat batteries at the facility, as the suspects remain at large. This is the only location where the rowing club can currently practice due to ongoing disputes with the city over practice sites.
Cape Coral police confirmed the investigation is still active and said they will provide updates as they become available.
