Lee County deputies say a road rage incident involving a gun escalated in the parking lot of a Publix and Burger King shopping center in North Fort Myers on Friday.
The alleged victim confronted the suspect, Amber Fellers, 34, in the parking lot after following her vehicle while calling 911. Deputies say Fellers, who was driving on U.S. 41 between Diplomat Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard, reportedly pointed a silver handgun at the victim during the initial encounter.
Video obtained by Gulf Coast News shows Fellers, wearing a red shirt, in the parking lot. Another video, according to deputies, shows Fellers reportedly walking up to the victim’s vehicle and slapping her in the face moments before the confrontation captured in the footage obtained.
"Why do you got to pull out a gun (expletive)," the alleged victim said in the video.
"You followed me here!" someone else in the video is heard saying. "She's trying to run us over now."
According to the arrest report, the incident began shortly before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Diplomat Parkway and US-41.
The alleged victim told investigators she was driving behind a red Cadillac when she recognized Fellers, who was riding in the passenger seat. The victim said Fellers was reportedly yelling at her before the Cadillac slowed down, forcing her to merge around it.
As she attempted to pass, the victim told detectives Fellers reportedly pointed a silver handgun at her through the open passenger-side window, causing her to fear for her safety.
The victim called 911 and continued following the Cadillac while providing dispatchers with its location, according to the report.
Both vehicles eventually pulled into the Publix shopping plaza near Del Prado Boulevard, where deputies say the confrontation continued.
The victim told investigators Fellers got out of the Cadillac, approached her vehicle and reportedly struck her in the face while she was still seated behind the wheel. The victim then picked up a wooden handle before the two continued arguing.
Deputies later conducted a traffic stop on the Cadillac and detained Fellers.
According to the report, detectives found a reportedly loaded Titan .25-caliber handgun with seven rounds of ammunition in plain view inside Fellers’ car, which she is prohibited from possessing due to her status as a convicted felon.
Investigators also recovered the wooden handle described by the victim.
The alleged victim, who spoke by phone, said she and Fellers have had interactions in the past but described this reported incident as different, saying pulling out a gun put not only her life in danger, but everyone else on the road too.
Fellers declined to comment.
"It's been two years," someone else in the video is heard saying. "I'll bond her out, and I'll bond her out."
Fellers is now out on bond and is facing charges of aggravated assault, burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
