Rep. Greg Steube to tour storm-damaged Fort Myers Yacht Basin

The Fort Myers Yacht Basin has remained quiet and empty for years after sustaining damage from Hurricane Ian, leaving the downtown waterfront destination without redevelopment progress.

Tuesday, state leaders are stepping in to address the delays. Rep. Greg Steube will tour the site alongside Fort Myers and Lee County leaders to get an up-close look at why redevelopment has yet to move forward.

The project has been waiting on federal permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NOAA Fisheries. The visit is expected to focus on what is causing those delays, what federal support may be needed, and what the timeline could look like for bringing the waterfront back to life.

The tour is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.
