Three men were arrested after Collier County deputies say they were street racing along Collier Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
According to an arrest report, deputies were patrolling along Collier Boulevard when they saw a car and two motorcycles driving at a high rate of speed and trying to race on Tuesday. Deputies managed to catch up to the car, a Dodge Charger.
When deputies pulled over the driver of the Dodge, Garrett Cioffi, 29, he reportedly asked why he was being pulled over. When deputies told Cioffi that he was being pulled over for street racing, he said he "wasn't trying to race them," and that they told him to "hit the gas a little bit."
Cioffi was arrested and faces a street racing charge.
While Cioffi was still in the deputies' patrol car, they located one of the motorcyclists going 85 mph in a 50 mph zone on Immokalee Road, the report says. The rider, Lawrence Long, 18, was also arrested. He faces a street racing charge.
The report says that while the two men were in the patrol car, Cioffi asked Long if he was on the motorcycle, and Long said "yeah."
Deputies say that they found the second motorcyclist, Landan Murphy, 19, circling around the area that Long was arrested at. He was also stopped and eventually arrested. Murphy faces charges of street racing and operating a motorcycle without a license.
