Firefighter hospitalized after battling Golden Gate house fire

A firefighter was taken to the hospital Friday morning after crews responded to a residential structure fire in Golden Gate.

According to the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District, crews were called to a home at 4257 17th Ave. SW around 8:37 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming through the roof of the home. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also on fire. Crews quickly brought both the house fire and vehicle fire under control.

Fire officials said everyone inside the home safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no residents were injured.

One Greater Naples Fire Rescue firefighter was transported to a local hospital after experiencing heat exhaustion while working at the scene. The firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.

Seven Greater Naples Fire Rescue apparatuses responded to the incident with assistance from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Collier County EMS, and North Collier Fire Rescue.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
