Garage destroyed in Golden Gate house fire, firefighter transported

GOLDEN GATE, Fla. (WINK) — The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District responded to a house fire in Golden Gate that destroyed a garage and heavily damaged its roof.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames coming through the roof of the home upon arrival, according to a press release. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also on fire.

Crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and brought both the structure and vehicle fires under control. All occupants safely evacuated the home prior to firefighters' arrival.

No residents were injured. One Greater Naples Fire Rescue firefighter was transported to a local hospital after experiencing heat exhaustion while operating on scene, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The home's residents told WINK News that one adult and one child were inside the building at the time of the fire. They were both able to escape unharmed. 

The home is considered a total loss by firefighters. Six people have been displaced.

The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family.

A total of seven Greater Naples Fire Rescue apparatus responded to the incident, with assistance from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Collier County EMS, and North Collier Fire Rescue. The American Red Cross was notified and is assisting the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
