SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — WINK News Weather Authority meteorologists are forecasting dangerous heat with record highs and very hot "feels like" temperatures the next few days.
Most of Southwest Florida is under a low-end risk for severe weather on Friday. Thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours are the main concern. Before the storms arrive, temperatures will once again challenge record highs for the day.
Friday starts dry, with temperatures in the 70s to lower 80s. While a large plume of Saharan dust continues to move across Southwest Florida, increasing moisture will boost rain and storm coverage throughout the day.
Plan for scattered storms (50% coverage) during the afternoon and evening. The combination of heat and increasing moisture could allow a few storms to become strong, with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning as the primary threats. Temperatures will top out in the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values ranging from 105 to 111 degrees.
