North Carolina man accused of attacking officer and deputy on Marco Island

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. (WINK) — A North Carolina man is facing charges after police say he crashed his car and then assaulted an officer and a deputy.

42-year-old Michael Bonfiglio allegedly wrecked his vehicle Wednesday night near Cape Marco Drive and South Collier Boulevard, not far from the Sunset Grille. Police said Bonfiglio drove off the road and crashed into several trees and a wall.

Officers who responded to help Bonfiglio said he became combative and aggressive. One officer said Bonfiglio shoved him, though the officer wasn't hurt.

He faces 2 charges of battery and one charge of resisting an officer.

According to a separate report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Bonfiglio grabbed and shoved a corrections deputy while being processed at the jail. He is in custody as of Friday.
