SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — WINK News Weather Authority meteorologists are forecasting record heat and strong storms this Friday as parts of Southwest Florida are under a Level 1 risk for severe weather.
Friday is starting dry with temperatures in the 70s to lower 80s. While a large plume of Saharan dust will continue to move over Southwest Florida, more moisture will also be moving in and this will increase rain and storm coverage throughout the day. Plan for scattered storms (50% coverage) throughout the afternoon and evening. The hot and drier air mass will enhance some of those storms and severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and intense lightning are possible. Temperatures top out in the mid to upper 90s with "feels like" temperatures ranging from 105 - 111°.
Saturday morning starts dry with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. While Saharan dust will continue to move across the state, scattered storms return for you Saturday plans. Those scattered storms (40% coverage) are expected throughout the afternoon. Strong to severe storms with damaging winds and intense lightning are also possible. Temperatures top out in the mid 90s with "feels like" temperatures ranging from 104 - 110°.
Plan on a dry and pleasant start Sunday morning with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. More Saharan dust will be moving back into Southwest Florida Sunday which will be limiting storm coverage through the day. While a few storms will pop up (20% coverage) the majority of the area will be drier. Highs top out in the mid to upper 90s with "feels like" temperatures ranging from 104 - 110°.
