Cape Coral group raising $400K for women's military monument

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A first-of-its-kind monument honoring women in the military is being proposed to rise in Cape Coral.

Sisters in Arms of Cape Coral is pushing to raise $400,000 for a military women's monument at Four Mile Cove. Organizers said women have stood on the front lines for generations, but their stories are too often overlooked.

"Women have been serving this nation since the Revolutionary War, and oftentimes that goes unrecognized compared to our male counterparts," a representative said. "And so, when we go out to the Ecological Preserve, we want to see a monument that represents all women veterans that have served this country in all branches of service."

Donations are now open. Organizers hope this monument will stand as a permanent tribute and spark new conversations for years to come.
