Crews on scene extinguishing boat fire near Hurricane Pass, one injury reported

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WINK) — The Fort Myers Beach Fire District is on scene attending to a boat fire near Hurricane Pass.

Along with crews from the Iona McGregor Fire District and the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District, first responders extinguished the boat fire late Wednesday morning. 

According to the Fort Myers Beach Fire District, one occupant was on board the vessel at the time of rescue. They had sustained non-life-threatening injuries due to the boat fire.

Local firefighters and the United States Coast Guard are present on the scene, monitoring the sailboat out of caution.

WINK News contacted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regarding the boat fire and whether FWC was present on the scene.

According to FWC, Lee County is the lead investigator of this scene. In addition, FWC noted that a 22-foot sailboat caught fire near the Hurricane Pass Bridge. 

They added that a Good Samaritan was present and tried to assist the injured person who was on the sailboat when the fire erupted.
