Fort Myers woman killed after vehicle strikes signpost, catches fire in I-75 crash near Alico Road

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A 35-year-old Fort Myers woman was killed Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on I-75 in Lee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 12:19 p.m. on southbound I-75 near mile marker 130, according to FHP.

Investigators said the woman was driving a 2022 Toyota when the vehicle veered off the roadway and entered the sloped grass shoulder. The front of the vehicle then collided with the signpost for the Exit 128 Alico off-ramp, FHP said in a release.

After the crash, the vehicle caught fire, FHP said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash temporarily blocked the right lane of southbound I-75 following the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
