FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Looking to try something new? Whether you're searching for a fun activity for your child, a challenging workout, or practical self-defense skills, Legacy Submission Grappling has a class for just about everyone.
Located at 13720 Jetport Commerce Parkway in Fort Myers, the academy offers no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling classes for students of all ages and experience levels. From toddlers taking their first steps on the mat to adults looking to compete or simply stay active, every class is designed to build confidence, discipline and resilience.
Children as young as 3 years old can begin learning the fundamentals through age-specific classes that focus on coordination, listening skills and respect. As students grow, they progress into youth and teen programs that introduce more advanced techniques while encouraging leadership, perseverance and teamwork. Adult classes welcome everyone, from complete beginners to experienced grapplers looking to sharpen their skills.
Looking to try something new? Whether you're searching for a fun activity for your child, a challenging workout, or practical self-defense skills, Legacy Submission Grappling has a class for just about everyone.
The academy is led by Coach Jose Gonzales and Coach Alejandro Lopez, who believe the lessons learned during training extend far beyond the mats.
"You learn a lot about yourself, not just mentally but emotionally," Gonzales said. "In Jiu-Jitsu, you have two ways of getting out: submission or critical thinking. Kids here don't want to give up."
Gonzales said the sport teaches students how to stay calm under pressure while developing confidence, self-discipline and a strong work ethic.
"We have some great families and kids who come out here to learn," Gonzales said. "It's not only a great workout, but it's great on your body as well."
Beyond its youth and adult programs, Legacy Submission Grappling also hosts free women's Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense classes twice each month. The classes are designed to teach practical techniques women can use in real-life situations while building confidence in a supportive environment.
"We teach easy techniques anyone can pick up," Gonzales said. "These are to take down attackers, create space and get away."
