New veterans' nursing home breaks ground in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)— Construction has begun on a new veterans' nursing home in Collier County.

Suffolk, a construction management firm, broke ground on the facility that will serve veterans across eight Southwest Florida counties. 

The builder said the project will incorporate design strategies that enhance hurricane resiliency and improve cost efficiency.

Collier County is home to more than 23,000 veterans. Florida has nearly 1.5 million veterans, the third-largest veteran population in the nation.

"Suffolk is honored to help deliver a nursing home that will provide exceptional care and support for the men and women who have served our country," said Pete Tuffo, president of Suffolk's Florida Gulf Coast, National Gaming, and Las Vegas.

Suffolk is working with Collier County, the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs, the Florida Department of Management Services, and project partners to coordinate environmental remediation while construction continues. 

The 120-bed facility will provide skilled nursing and adult day health care services, including rehabilitation therapies. It will also feature landscaped gardens, gazebos, walking paths, libraries, and gathering spaces for residents and their families.
