NHC now giving Invest 91L a 50% chance of development over the next 7 days

FLORIDA, (WINK) - The 8 p.m. advisory is in from the National Hurricane Center, and there are no major changes to the forecast. The only difference between now and the last advisory is that the 2-day chances for development are up to 40%.

The upper-level low just off the Southwest Florida coastline continues to produce showers and thunderstorms this morning, especially along the coast. However, for this system to become tropical, it must develop a well-defined surface circulation. According to the National Hurricane Center, surface pressures remain relatively high across the region, preventing that organization from taking place.

As a result, development odds are at 50% over the next seven days.

Regardless of whether this system develops, it's expected to drift generally northwest over the next several days, meaning the primary impacts for Southwest Florida will continue to be periods of scattered showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, along with breezy conditions, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph at times.
