Fort Myers Beach intersection signals on track for repairs

The Times Square intersection at Estero Boulevard and Old San Carlos Boulevard on Fort Myers Beach, where traffic and pedestrian signals have been out of service for over three years due to Hurricane Ian, is set to operate again this September.

Local residents and visitors say they find things a bit confusing at the moment without functioning signals. "With four kids, one being an infant, and my wife, it was a little hectic and a little nerve-wracking since no one really knows when to go and...[It's] not the greatest," said Andrew Fenton, a Fort Myers Beach resident.

Fort Myers Beach officials have confirmed that the traffic and pedestrian signals are on track to operate again this September.

Other improvements will also include additional upgrades funded by FEMA, such as traffic cameras, pedestrian signals, and ADA-compliant ramps. These improvements aim to enhance safety and accessibility for everyone.

"That would be a huge improvement and really good for people visiting this wonderful area and community for sure," Fenton said.
