I-75 off-ramp at Daniels Parkway closing nightly to install new wrong-way detection tech

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK)— The Florida Department of Transportation announced overnight closures of the southbound Interstate 75 off-ramp at Daniels Parkway for three consecutive nights this week.

According to a press release, the closures will occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday and will last until Wednesday.

Crews will work on striping installation and testing of wrong-way detection devices during the closures.

Motorists will need to exit I-75 at Colonial Boulevard (Exit 136) or continue to Alico Road (Exit 128) and follow local roads to Daniels Parkway. 

FDOT advised drivers to use extra caution and follow detour signage or seek alternate routes.

The closures are part of ongoing reconstruction at the I-75 and Daniels Parkway interchange (Exit 131). 

FDOT is converting the interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange design, which includes reconstruction of I-75 ramps, construction of pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, installation of new signals at the ramps, and resurfacing of Daniels Parkway through the project area.

Crews are currently working on earthwork, underground drainage, drilled shaft removals, and installation of permanent lighting and wrong-way detection. 

Widening work is also underway at the southbound I-75 off-ramp and Daniels Parkway.

The press release noted that westbound lanes on Daniels Parkway have shifted slightly to the south, then back to the north. Traffic on the southbound I-75 off-ramp has also shifted to the east.

When necessary, motorists should anticipate lane closures on I-75 between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. and on Daniels Parkway between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. The speed limit has been reduced in the project area.

Pedestrian access has been shifted to the south side of Daniels Parkway. FDOT advised pedestrians to follow signs and proceed with caution in the work zone.

The project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2028.
