Missing today's deadline means sitting out Florida's August primary

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — Monday is the final day to register to vote or change your party affiliation if you want to vote in the Florida primary next month.

Voters can register online at the state's voter registration website, registertovoteflorida.gov. The process involves answering a series of questions and should take less than 10 minutes, and the site can also be used to check if someone is already registered.

Those who prefer in-person assistance can visit their local election office with a state ID. In Lee County, the elections office is located on Thompson Street in Fort Myers.

Voters who cannot visit in person can register or make changes through the mail, but it must be postmarked by Monday. No appointment is necessary for in-person visits, but the deadline is strict.

Florida is a closed primary state. This means voters must be registered with a political party to vote for that party's candidate in the August primary.

Voters who are already registered but have moved or changed their name can still update that information after the deadline.
