DOGE inquiry into Cape Coral spending now public, accessible online

Information requested from the City of Cape Coral by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been made available to the public online.

The release of information follows a late-May letter from DOGE to Cape Coral, requesting fiscal spending and detailed records from the city for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The City of Cape Coral said that it provided all requested records to DOGE by the set June 25 deadline.

"Information maintained electronically in Cape Coral data systems was provided to DOGE with read-only electronic access to download the information directly," the city said in a news release. "The City has not been given any indication of when DOGE will complete its inquiry. If DOGE issues recommendations, they will be posted on our website."

DOGE’s inquiry focused on what it called wasteful spending, including emergency purchases, sole-source contracts, cooperative purchasing agreements, and purchase orders.

The city said the online release of the records supports transparency and open government by providing residents and stakeholders with access to DOGE's formal communications and the city's response to the agency.
