Sanibel city leaders are debating whether residents should have a say in the future of a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Periwinkle Way, Causeway Boulevard, and Lindgren Boulevard.
A consultant’s new survey found that the roundabout could fit at the intersection without expanding into Pond Apple Park, addressing one of the major questions surrounding the project.
The focus now shifts to whether Sanibel residents should vote in an advisory referendum, also known as a public vote, before the city moves forward.
Council members are also expected to discuss the timing of such a vote, whether it should take place during the regular municipal election or through a separate election.
No final decision on building the roundabout is expected today.
