South Florida Water Management District to conduct 160-acre prescribed burn near Bonita Beach Road

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The South Florida Water Management District plans to conduct a 160-acre prescribed burn on Tuesday in the CREW Management Area.

The burn unit is located approximately 5 miles east of I-75 and 2 miles northeast of Bonita Beach Road. Smoke may be visible in the burn area and in neighboring areas.

Residents may see or smell smoke in the area. Anyone with asthma is asked to stay indoors and away from the smoke.

If anyone is experiencing asthmatic symptoms that cannot be controlled, that person should dial 911.

If the fire grows and is deemed out of control, the Bonita Springs Fire District may be asked to provide mutual aid to extinguish it. Until then, the fire remains under the jurisdiction of the Florida Forest Service.
