Cape Coral teens accused of blowing up park restrooms

Two teens were arrested after officers with the Cape Coral Police Department say they set off explosive devices in the restrooms of Jim Jeffers Park.

According to a news release, officers initially responded to calls of criminal mischief at the park on Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers found damage to the park's restrooms. CCPD says six toilets had been destroyed using explosive devices. Two soap dispensers were also damaged.

CCPD says the total cost of repairs is over $3,000.

During the investigation, CCPD says a yellow Chevrolet Camaro was seen entering the park in the early morning hours. Two people were captured on surveillance footage entering the restroom area, officers say. After that, multiple flashes consistent with an explosion were seen.

CCPD says they identified the vehicle and its occupants, 17-year-old Trey Pinette and 16-year-old Da'Vaustin Neff. Both suspects reportedly admitted to using explosive devices in the toilets.

Trey and Da'Vaustin were both arrested and face the following charges:

• Burglary of a structure with criminal mischief over $1,000
• Arson
• Criminal mischief over $1,000
