Cape Coral woman killed in single-vehicle crash on College Parkway, FHP says

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)- A 35-year-old Cape Coral woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning on College Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of College Parkway near the intersection of Premiere Boulevard.

According to investigators, the woman was driving west on College Parkway when her vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree in the median. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

When crews arrived, the damage to the vehicle was so extensive that its make and model were not immediately identifiable. The impact also left a large dent in the tree, which was leaning after the crash. Crews later cut the damaged tree down as part of the response.

The Lee County Medical Examiner responded to the scene to remove the victim, while deputies and Florida Highway Patrol investigators worked for several hours to determine what led up to the crash.

The westbound lanes of College Parkway remained closed for several hours during the investigation before reopening shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Authorities have not released the woman's identity pending notification of next of kin. Florida Highway Patrol said she was a Cape Coral resident.

The crash remains under investigation.
