Caught on Camera: Lee deputies release body camera video of I-75 standoff arrest

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office released body camera footage showcasing their efforts in response to the Interstate 75 standoff involving a barricaded homicide suspect. 

On Wednesday, deputies, along with the Florida Highway Patrol, closed a portion of I-75 south and northbound in response to a pursuit involving a St. Petersburg man, Ladavion King, who was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting involving a 47-year-old woman who worked as a City of St. Petersburg sanitation technician. 

The pursuit came to a head near Exit:128, where law enforcement closed the roadways both ways for hours, after King barricaded himself inside his vehicle, refusing to leave. The standoff eventually led to open fire by the sheriff’s office and King.

Deputies deployed members from their Special Operations Unit, Advanced Technology Support Unit, K9, and Patrol units to assist the Florida Highway Patrol. 

After the situation was de-escalated, King was transported to a nearby Lee County area hospital to be treated for serious injuries. 

Florida Highway Patrol charges are forthcoming.
